Please be advised that the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission (MPHRC) has approved, via formal Directive of the Commissioners, the implementation of automatic 5% purse allocations to both trainers and drivers. This motion was adopted following review of industry feedback, and the Directive stands as written.
Effective January 1, 2026, all racetracks conducting harness racing within the Maritime Provinces are required to implement automatic allocations of 5% of purse earnings to the licensed trainer and 5% to the licensed driver of each horse earning purse money.
Racetracks will be responsible for administering these allocations and ensuring payments are distributed directly to the trainer and driver associated with each purse.
This Directive is intended to establish consistent and equitable compensation practices for horsepeople across the region and to align Maritime racing with standard practices in other North American jurisdictions.
