August 1, 2025

Kensington, PEI — The Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission (APHRC) is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2025 bursary program, recognizing four exceptional young individuals who have demonstrated both academic promise and a strong connection to the harness racing community.

This year’s bursary recipients are:

  • Julia Clow of New Haven, Prince Edward Island, daughter of Deanna and Les Clow. Julia will attend the University of Prince Edward Island this fall to pursue a degree in Psychology, with the goal of becoming a teacher. Her family is deeply involved in the racing community, with her sister Abby working as a trainer and her brother Brett driving on the PEI circuit.
  • Kali MacDonald of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, daughter of Danny and Tammy MacDonald. Kali is enrolled in the Science program at UPEI with aspirations of becoming a physiotherapist. She has grown up around the harness racing industry and remains a passionate supporter of the sport.
  • Brooke Kennedy of Frankville, Nova Scotia, daughter of Donald and Tanya Kennedy. Brooke is attending the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Truro to study bio-veterinary science, with the goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian. Her background in rural Nova Scotia and her close ties to the racing industry shaped her career path.
  • Lucas Thibeau of Kensington, Prince Edward Island, son of Blaine and Jennifer Thibeau. Lucas is entering the Business Administration program at UPEI, with plans to build a future in business while remaining closely connected to the sport he grew up around.

The APHRC bursary program is open to students who demonstrate a clear passion for harness racing, a family connection to the industry, and a commitment to post-secondary education. Selection is based on multiple factors including financial need, academic goals, and contributions to the sport.

“We’re proud to support these deserving students as they take the next steps in their academic and personal journeys,” said the APHRC Director of Racing, Kyle Burton. “Their connection to harness racing and their future ambitions reflect the strength and values of our industry. We wish them the very best and look forward to seeing them at the track for many years to come.”
